Full Zip Jacket "Oatmeal"

Collector Note: This jacket was passed to me by a teary eyed Japanese collector amid a small bow and faint, "good-bye." (A farewell statement clearly intended for the garment itself and none of the human beings present in the room.) The "white label" special is from the earliest years of Patagonia, when the idea to make clothes was basically a profitable distraction to Chouinard's laser focused climbing hardware efforts.

The extreme piling, crooked zipper, and slightly asymmetric construction make the jacket feel more wild animal than anything else. It's worth mentioning that forty odd years later it's probably as warm as 90% of the jackets on this list.

Once while being worn in a pizza shop in Bed Stuy a concerned counter girl kindly told me, "You do know they make combs to take the pile off jackets like that, right?" Doesn't get much better.
